Govt to present Budget for 2012-13 on March 16

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will unveil the Union Budget for 2012-13 on March 16 in the Lok Sabha. The budget session will begin on March 12 with President Pratibha Patil addressing the joint sitting of members of both the Houses of Parliament. While the rail budget will be presented on March 14, the Economic Survey will be tabled on March 15. "We will be recommending to the President that budget session may be summoned on March 12 and continue up to March 30. Address by the President would be on March 12. Rail budget on March 14 and Union Budget on March 16," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said. Bansal was talking to reporters after the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) headed by Mukherjee. He further said that the second part of the budget session will be held from April 24 to May 22. The budget session, which generally starts in the third week of February, has been delayed this time due to the ongoing Assembly elections in five states, including Uttar Pradesh. Around 1,000 DMDK workers desert Vijaykanth, join AIADMK

A week after a fiery exchange of words between Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and Leader of Opposition Vijayakanth in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, around 1,000 DMDK functionaries and workers, including the actor-politician's close friend Ibrahim Rowther joined the ruling AIADMK on Tuesday. Among the other notables who joined the Jayalalithaa-led party include trade unionist K. Velmurugan, who unsuccessfully contested the Chennai Mayor post as the DMDK candidate in last October civic polls. Rowther is a film producer and is credited with playing an instrumental role in promoting Vijayakanth's film career by producing many films with the actor in the lead. He was also seen as a close aide of Vijayakanth. The DMDK functionaries and workers joined the AIADMK in the presence of Jayalalithaa who wished them a 'bright future.' Baby Falak critical, 'mother' can't meet her yet

Battered baby Falak continues to be critical at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where she has been battling for survival for over two weeks. But Munni, who claims to be her mother, will not be able to meet the two-year-old till DNA tests prove she is the biological parent, police said on Tuesday. The 22-year-old woman, Munni, who is also being treated as a victim in the case, claims to have abandoned Falak in September last year. She was traced from Jhunjhnu district in Rajasthan and brought to Delhi on Sunday night. "Munni's DNA test is yet to be done. It will take some time and investigations are still on, so we are not taking her to AIIMS today (Tuesday) to meet the child," a senior Delhi police official said pleading anonymity. Meanwhile, Falak is still critical and fighting for life at AIIMS. Sahara India chairman Subroto Roy said he will continue to support Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League (IPL) but ruled about sponsoring the Indian cricket team. Roy said he will continue supporting Pune Warriors because he doesn't want his players to suffer and miss the fifth edition of the IPL. Roy said cricket is immensely popular in India and Sahara's pullout won't affect the coffers of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) since there are several corporate majors willing to sponsor the cricket team. "Ten years back sponsorship was difficult in cricket. But now cricket is very rich and there are many people who are interested to be sponsor. So I don't think there is any problem.
